The Homiel Transport Prosecutor’s Office held those responsible for an incident involving a decommissioned tug accountable.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the tug had been taken out of service several years ago. However, strong winds tore off its mooring line, causing the unmanned vessel to drift along the Sozh River past Homiel’s waterfront.
The vessel was stopped and towed back to the mooring basin.
“The inspection showed that the tugboat began drifting on its own because the company’s fleet service was not properly organized to ensure the security and safety of moored vessels. The duty vessel designated for patrol operations did not fully carry out its assigned tasks of monitoring the condition of vessels in the mooring basin,” the statement said.
As a result, three employees of the vessel-owning company were subject to disciplinary action.
