The Czech government is preparing a decision that will be adopted in the coming weeks and will make it easier for relatives of Belarusians living in the country to obtain Czech visas. OTK reports this, citing assurances from Czech Foreign Ministry Director General for European Affairs Hana Hubáčková, who met with Pavel Latushka, Deputy Head of the United Transitional Cabinet.
The meeting was also attended by Czech Ambassador to Poland Břetislav Dančák and Ales Zarembiuk, head of the “Belarusian House in Warsaw.”
During the meeting, Pavel Latushka spoke about the two-track strategy under which the United States is using its mechanisms to secure the release of political prisoners and end repression, while the European Union is pressing for systemic changes in the country.
Hubáčková said this is an approach that the Czech Republic supports, as it is important to achieve systemic changes in Belarus.
The sides also agreed that despite the release of political prisoners, the situation in Belarus has not changed and unprecedented levels of repression continue.
At the meeting, Pavel Latushka spoke about the activities of democratic forces’ institutions, delegations of the Coordination Council to key European interparliamentary institutions, as well as the situation in Belarusian culture, which the Lukashenka regime, with the Kremlin’s support, is deliberately Russifying in an effort to change the mentality of Belarusians, and about the work being carried out by the National Anti-Crisis Management to hold representatives of the Lukashenka regime accountable.
Hubáčková reaffirmed the Czech Republic’s position of full solidarity with Belarusian democratic forces and its readiness to continue providing support, noting that the Czech Republic remembers what it is like when a country is under dictatorship and political prisoners are held in prisons.
