Customs Open Criminal Case Against Belarusian Citizen Over Car Import Scheme

The State Customs Committee has reported the opening of a criminal case against a citizen of Belarus under Part 2 of Article 231 of the Criminal Code. He is accused of organizing an illegal scheme for importing cars.

According to customs authorities, vehicles arriving from Lithuania were placed under the temporary import procedure, which does not предусматривает payment of customs duties. In Russia, technical passports bearing the cars’ VIN numbers and Russian registration plates were produced for these vehicles.

The man received the documents and number plates by mail and then used them to send the cars to other EAEU countries.

“The scheme had been operating for three years. The total amount of unpaid customs duties amounted to about 500,000 rubles. Five such vehicles have already been seized in Belarus. The organizer was detained in Uzda,” the State Customs Committee said.
