Belarusian customs officers intercepted two shipments of imported electronics on the M1 motorway that had been brought into the country through a “grey” scheme using private individuals.
In one truck stopped by оперативная customs officers, 312 items worth more than 420,000 Belarusian rubles were found. A second truck was carrying a further 219 items valued at 240,000 Belarusian rubles. In both cases, a Belarusian company was listed as the consignor.
The inspection established that the goods had been imported into Belarus by private individuals under the guise of items for personal use. Participants in the scheme then consolidated the shipments and forwarded them onward.
The unpaid customs duties on the two intercepted shipments amounted to nearly 190,000 Belarusian rubles. A criminal case has been opened.
