Currency Supply In Belarus Exceeded Demand By $400 Million In August

Currency supply in Belarus exceeded demand by $400 million in August, according to fresh data from the National Bank. In the first eight months of the year, the surplus in currency supply reached nearly $1.7 billion.

In August, turnover on the foreign exchange market amounted to $11.57 billion, significantly lower than in June and July, when it exceeded $14 billion. Compared with the same month last year, it increased by 7.9%.

In August, households bought $1.18 billion worth of foreign currency and sold $1.46 billion, providing net supply of $274 million.

Banks bought $6.19 billion worth of foreign currency last month and sold $6.29 billion. As a result, they were net sellers, with net supply of $96.6 million.

Non-residents bought $230.9 million worth of foreign currency in August and sold $449.8 million. Their net supply amounted to $218.9 million.

Belarusian businesses bought $3.28 billion worth of foreign currency last month and sold $3.09 billion. Their net demand amounted to $190 million.

Foreign exchange market turnover in the first eight months amounted to $101.6 billion, up 20.9% compared with the same period in 2025.

Households bought $9.15 billion worth of foreign currency in January-August and sold $10.76 billion, providing net supply of $1.61 billion.

Over the same period, banks bought $53.52 billion worth of foreign currency and sold $53.51 billion. Their net demand amounted to $9.8 million.

Non-residents bought $2.19 billion worth of foreign currency in the first eight months and sold $3.18 billion. They provided net supply of $991.5 million.

Belarusian businesses have bought $29.67 billion worth of foreign currency since the beginning of the year and sold $28.77 billion. Their net demand amounted to $895.3 million.
