A criminal case has been opened in Baranavichy over unauthorized access to a Telegram account.
As the Brest Regional Executive Committee’s Department of Internal Affairs reported, the case was prompted by an appeal from a 40-year-old local woman. She said she received a message from an acquaintance with a link to vote for a child in a contest. After following the link and completing the suggested steps, the perpetrators gained access to her account.
Messages asking contacts to lend 700 rubles were then sent from her account. One of her acquaintances transferred money to the specified bank details.
A criminal case was opened under Part 1 of Article 349 of the Criminal Code of Belarus, “Unauthorized Access to Computer Information.” The identities of those involved in the crime are being established.
