The Council of Ministers of Belarus has approved a draft programme of joint activities between Belarus and Russia within the framework of the Union State aimed at overcoming the negative consequences of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant disaster.
Nearly 2 billion Russian rubles from the Union State budget are planned to be allocated to the programme in 2026-2030.
According to the government press service, the programme provides for:
- improving the accessibility and quality of medical care for citizens of Belarus and Russia affected by the Chornobyl nuclear power plant disaster, including through the use of new developments
- conducting surveys of resettled (excluded) territories in Belarus and Russia with the aim of returning them to economic use, as well as improving agricultural production technologies
- other measures aimed at reducing risks and ensuring radiation protection for the population
