The United States wants relations between Belarus and Lithuania to improve, US President’s Special Envoy John Coale said after meeting with Alyaksandr Lukashenka in Minsk, BelTA reported.
Journalists from pro-government Belarusian media asked about weather balloons, which Lithuania describes as a threat originating from Belarus. “Our president has repeatedly denied this, backing it up with specific facts. What do you think about this?” they asked.
Coale said he listens to the leadership of Lithuania and presidents of other countries. According to him, the United States is pursuing a specific mission and seeks to improve relations between Minsk and Vilnius.
“Working with representatives of Lithuania, we see our objective. In this case, we are carrying out a humanitarian mission. We want relations between Belarus and Lithuania to improve,” Coale said.
It should be recalled that the day before, Coale met with Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė, where they discussed the regional security situation, including weather balloons, irregular migration, and the detention of Lithuanian trucks in Belarus, as well as the release of Belarusian political prisoners.
He also held a meeting with three Lithuanian lawmakers, who presented a position differing from that of the Lithuanian government. They discussed issues related to weather balloons, trucks stranded in Belarus, and sanctions on potash.
