Cigarette Smuggling Hidden In Pellets Intercepted At Polish Border

Polish customs officers discovered Belarusian cigarettes in a freight train in Terespol. They had been hidden in wagons carrying pellets, the Lublin Customs and Tax Office in Biała Podlaska reported.

The train, traveling from Brest to Małaszewicze, was inspected at the border using X-ray equipment. Following the scan, two wagons carrying sunflower husk pellets were selected for detailed inspection. The cigarettes were concealed between bags of legitimate cargo.

In total, nearly 22,000 packs of cigarettes were seized. Their value is estimated at over 450,000 zlotys (about $122,000).

Criminal tax proceedings have been initiated. Train personnel have been questioned as witnesses.
