Chornohor: Belarus’ Future Will Largely Determine The Security Of The Entire Region

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Yaroslav Chornohor said that the security of the entire region will largely depend on Belarus’ future. He said that issues related to Belarus’ democratic transition and engagement with Belarusian democratic forces were discussed at an open meeting titled “Diplomacy Without Classical Tools” as part of the “Start in Diplomacy” program, as well as at a meeting with the Public Council under the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on Aug. 31.

“Diplomacy with unfriendly regimes rarely follows familiar rules. This was precisely what was discussed during the open meeting ‘Diplomacy Without Classical Tools’ as part of the ‘Start in Diplomacy’ program, initiated by the Youth Council under the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. A total of 130 participants joined the meeting. Such interest among young people in complex issues of diplomacy and security is important for the state. On Aug. 31, this dialogue continued during a meeting with the Public Council under the Foreign Ministry,” he said on Instagram.

He noted that Ukraine considers it important to maintain dialogue with representatives of Belarusian democratic forces already now.

“In both formats, particular attention was paid to the prospects for a democratic transition in Belarus and engagement with Belarusian democratic forces. For Ukraine, this is not only a matter of relations with a neighboring state: the security of the entire region will largely depend on Belarus’ future.

Therefore, it is important already today to maintain an open and responsible dialogue with those who advocate for the democratic and sovereign development of Belarus. We will continue substantive engagement with young people and representatives of civil society to protect Ukraine’s interests and strengthen regional security,” the diplomat added.
