Lithuania is concerned about plans to expand the nuclear power plant in Astravets. Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys made the statement during a meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi in Warsaw.
“The issue of the Astravets nuclear power plant remains unresolved. We have serious doubts about the safety culture at this and other plants being built by Rosatom. The planned expansion of the plant in Belarus will increase the level of threats to Lithuania. We expect the IAEA to be involved in managing nuclear safety risks”, Budrys said, according to the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry’s press service.
The sides also discussed nuclear energy safety in Ukraine.
“Russia’s continued use of winter as a weapon against Ukraine and its manipulation of nuclear safety to achieve military objectives are unacceptable”, the Lithuanian minister stressed.
He also expressed support for the IAEA’s activities in Ukraine.
