Belstat Records Deflation In August

The consumer price index fell by 0.1% in August compared with July, according to data from Belstat. Despite the deflation in August, the annual rate of price growth continued to increase.

Annual inflation in August was 4.5%, compared with 4.4% in July.

Since the beginning of the year, the consumer price index has risen by 3.1%. It was previously reported that the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade had set monthly benchmarks for permissible price growth. For August, the benchmark was 4.2%.

Core inflation, which excludes changes in prices for seasonal and regulated goods and services, was 0.4% in August, 0.2 percentage points lower than in July, while since the beginning of the year it reached 3.4%.

In August compared with July, food prices fell by 0.8%, non-food prices rose by 0.5%, and services increased by 0.3%.

Since the beginning of the year, food prices have risen by 0.7%, non-food prices by 2.8%, while service tariffs have increased by 7.6%.

Year-on-year, food prices increased by 3.1%, non-food prices by 3.2%, and service tariffs by 8.7%.

It was previously reported that the target inflation rate for 2026 is no more than 7%.
