Belarusian citizen Syarhey Yeremeyeu was sentenced to 22 years in prison in the case of the explosions in the North Muysky Tunnel on 29 November 2023 and on the Pereval–Goryachy Klyuch section of the East Siberian Railway on 30 November 2023. The verdict was delivered by the 2nd Eastern District Military Court of Russia on 18 December.
Yeremeyeu was found guilty of participating in a terrorist organisation, carrying out terrorist attacks, undergoing training for the purpose of terrorist activity, illegally smuggling explosive devices and storing them.
“The court established that in October 2023, while on the territory of the Republic of Belarus, Yeremeyeu, during communication with an unidentified person via the Signal and Telegram messengers, agreed in exchange for money to join a terrorist organisation whose goals included organising, planning, preparing, financing and carrying out terrorist attacks on the territory of the Russian Federation, as well as recruiting, arming and training their direct perpetrators,” the court’s press service said.
According to the case files, Yeremeyeu received the coordinates of a cache in Belarus, retrieved homemade explosive devices with remote-control units from it, stored them in his garage, and “underwent training in mine-explosive techniques and terrorist activities during communication in Signal with members of the terrorist organisation.”
According to the prosecution, in November 2023 Yeremeyeu transported the explosive devices from Belarus to Russia, then installed them on a section of the East Siberian Railway and on trains, activated the control units, and hid the remaining explosive devices in a forest.
Syarhey Yeremeyeu is a Belarusian citizen born in 1971. He worked as an instrumentation technician at OAO Naftan and took part in the 2020 strike. It is known that after his detention Yeremeyeu was taken to Belarus for investigative actions.
