Belarusian Loses Car in Poland Over Cigarette Smuggling

A Belarusian citizen’s car was inspected on a highway near the Polish-Lithuanian border, where customs officers found smuggled cigarettes hidden in a concealed compartment.

Polish customs officers stopped an Opel driven by a 44-year-old Belarusian man. The vehicle was scanned, revealing 6,300 packs of cigarettes concealed in a false floor. The smuggled goods are estimated to be worth 125,000 zlotys ($32,900).

Criminal proceedings have been launched against the man. The cigarettes and the vehicle have been seized, the Tax Administration Chamber in Białystok reported.
