Belarusian Government Adjusts Potato Size Standards in Stores

The Belarusian government has introduced mandatory size requirements for potatoes supplied under the state procurement program. The measures were adopted following public complaints this year about small potatoes being sold in stores.

According to a resolution signed by Alyaksandr Turchyn, the Prime Minister of Belarus:

• The state standard (GOST) for table potatoes has been revised.
• Requirements have been established for apples sold in retail stores.
• The timelines for setting prices for fruit and vegetable products and concluding supply contracts have been changed.
• The volumes of potatoes, fresh white cabbage, beets, carrots, and onions supplied from stabilization funds for national needs during the 2025/2026 off-season have been increased by region, taking into account yields and higher sales.

The Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade (MART) clarified that the permissible size of potatoes for sale is now between 45 mm and 80 mm (previously 35 mm to 80 mm).
