The Ministry of Forestry has reported a several-fold increase in sales of fuel pellets to Belarusian residents. Sales rose 3.5 times.
“In the first nine months of this year, forestry enterprises sold 6.2 tonnes of pellets to the public. By comparison, sales over the same period last year were much lower, at just 1.8 tonnes,” the ministry’s press service said.
Overall, forestry enterprises sold more than 70 tonnes of pellets on the domestic market between January and September.
Around 20 enterprises within the Ministry of Forestry system produce this type of fuel. Pellets are sold both at special prices for households and at market rates.
According to the State Committee for Standardization, Belarus sold 61,600 tonnes of fuel pellets last year, including 4,560 tonnes to households.
In previous years, Belarus built 64 fuel pellet plants with a combined capacity of 900,000 tonnes. Most were built with exports to EU countries in mind. However, since 2022, wood-processing products have been subject to EU sanctions imposed in response to the Belarusian authorities’ involvement in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
