The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement strongly condemning remarks by NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Alexus Grynkewich, who presented a “Theory of Victory” at a forum in Warsaw this week.
The Foreign Ministry’s statement says that Belarus “strongly condemns the statements by General Alexus Grynkewich, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, who presented the so-called ‘Theory of Victory’”.
“This concept envisages pre-emptive strikes against Belarusian territory using drones and ground-based robotic systems”, the ministry said.
As previously reported, the plan presented by Grynkewich outlines NATO’s response to Russian aggression. It envisages stopping an attack and, if the aggression continues, depriving the adversary of the ability to control and sustain its forces. NATO would not seek to defeat Russia or undermine its government. The strategy envisages establishing a broad “autonomous zone” in which drones and ground robots could repel a Russian attack without significant losses among allied troops, as well as striking targets in Belarus and Russia’s Kaliningrad Region.
In its statement, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry accused NATO of aggression.
“The North Atlantic Alliance’s aggressive rhetoric is becoming increasingly systematic. In the absence of any threats from Belarus and without any real preconditions for conflict, NATO is drawing up plans to increase its military presence near our borders and strike the territory of a sovereign state.
Under the cover of defensive rhetoric, the bloc is effectively laying the groundwork for military escalation and aggression.
Belarus has never threatened anyone. Our military doctrine is purely defensive in nature. We consistently advocate openness, de-escalation and equal dialogue.
We call on our Western counterparts to exercise sound judgment and begin working together to restore mutual trust”, the ministry added.
