Representatives of the Belarusian democratic forces will have an official voice in the Nordic Council, an interparliamentary organisation comprising Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya said this.
“The establishment of the delegation means the formalisation of relations between democratic Belarus and the Nordic Council. The new format of cooperation largely resembles the model of cooperation with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, where the democratic forces also have a delegation,” the Office said.
The Belarusian delegation will now be able to participate in Nordic Council sessions, directly present the Belarusian agenda to lawmakers from the Nordic countries, and influence the development of decisions on security, human rights, education, social policy and support for civil society.
The delegation will include representatives of the Office of Tsikhanouskaya, the United Transitional Cabinet, the Coordination Council, political parties and the expert community. They will independently select their delegates before each session.
