A Belarusian citizen has been detained in Ukraine at the request of the United States. He will remain in extradition custody at Kyiv’s pre-trial detention centre at least until Sept. 9, Radio Svaboda reported, citing sources.
The Belarusian national was detained by officers of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) on July 7 in the village of Vyshenky in Kyiv Region’s Boryspil District, where he had been living.
The detention was based on a U.S. request for his arrest “as a person sought for criminal prosecution for offences related to participation in the distribution of malicious advertisements used for cybercriminal activity.”
The arrest warrant was issued by a U.S. district court on June 10, 2025. In the United States, he is suspected of offences under Sections 371, 1343, 1349 and 3559(g), including conspiracy to commit wire fraud involving electronic communications and computer systems, as well as wire fraud. The Belarusian national is accused of crimes allegedly committed between October 2013 and April 2023.
