Belarus Wants to Join Russia’s Northern Supply Program

Belarus wants to participate in efforts to supply Russia’s Far North. Changes to Russian legislation have opened up opportunities for this, Dzmitry Krutoi, head of the Lukashenka administration, said. He discussed the issue at the Eastern Economic Forum.

“During meetings with governors from the Russian Far East, we discussed the Northern Supply program. The Russian Federation has amended its legislation and adopted a new law on the Northern Supply program. Now it is important to understand how Belarusian goods will be systematically delivered to these regions, because this is a very attractive way of supplying our products, primarily food,” he said.

According to him, the issue was also raised during a meeting with Aleksey Chekunkov, Russia’s minister for the development of the Far East and the Arctic.

In addition, the heads of Russian regions suggested that Krutoi invest in new ports.

“As part of the Northern Sea Route, several governors proposed that we participate in the construction of port infrastructure. Belarusian companies and Belarusian residents have effectively been invited to establish a foothold along the Northern Sea Route,” he said.
