Belarus’s gross domestic product in January 2026 amounted to 23.3 billion rubles at current prices. In comparable prices, it declined by 1.2% compared with January 2025.
The GDP deflator index in January stood at 109.9%.
It should be noted that today Alyaksandr Lukashenka is due to hear a government report on the performance of the economy in 2025 and plans for 2026. On Saturday, Prime Minister Alyaksandr Turchyn held a meeting devoted to the decline in industrial production and exports, instructing officials to tighten control over the fulfilment of targets. According to the official socio-economic development forecast approved by Lukashenka, GDP growth this year is expected to reach 2.8% by year-end.
Agricultural output in all categories of farms in January amounted to 1.94 billion rubles, increasing by 3.5% compared with January last year. In agricultural organisations, output rose by 3.8% to 1.92 billion rubles.
In January, farms of all categories produced 160.3 thousand tonnes of livestock and poultry, which is 4.3% more than a year earlier, milk production increased by 3.3% to 768.3 thousand tonnes, and egg production rose by 0.5% to 313.7 million units.
Industrial output in January totalled 16.6 billion rubles. In comparable prices, it decreased by 3.4% compared with January 2025.
Industrial inventories as of February 1 amounted to 12.04 billion rubles. Compared with January 1, they increased by 808.5 million rubles. The level of inventories reached 89% of average monthly output, rising by 8.7% over the month.
Freight turnover in January fell by 0.5% to 5.18 billion tonne-kilometres, while passenger transport increased by 0.7% to 137.3 million people.
Retail trade turnover in January amounted to 7.9 billion rubles. It increased by 1.2% compared with January 2025, Belstat reported.
Wholesale trade continued to decline. Wholesale turnover plunged by 9.2% to 12.3 billion rubles.
Turnover in public catering also decreased, falling by 3.1% to 570 million rubles.
