Belarus Refuses to Extradite Kandrotas to Lithuania

Belarus has refused Lithuania’s request to extradite Antanas Kandrotas, the Lithuanian Ministry of Justice reports.

In August 2026, the Lithuanian Ministry of Justice initiated extradition proceedings against Kandrotas at the request of the Kaunas Regional Court. The ministry formally asked the Lithuanian Prosecutor General’s Office to seek the extradition of the Lithuanian citizen.

“Lithuania is seeking to ensure that A. Kandrotas serves his prison sentence, and all necessary measures have been taken to that end. The European Arrest Warrant issued for him makes it possible to detain him if he enters the territory of the EU or its partner countries,” said Lithuanian Deputy Justice Minister Martynas Dobrovolskis.

On June 29, the Kaunas Regional Court issued a European Arrest Warrant for Kandrotas.

Antanas Kandrotas, also known as Celofanas, was sentenced in Lithuania to four years in prison over the 2021 riots outside the Seimas. He was also tried in a financial crime case involving illegal fuel trading and tax evasion.

Kandrotas has been in Belarus since May 2026. He has appeared repeatedly on Belarusian propaganda programmes.
