Belarus’ Goods Trade Deficit Reaches Nearly $6 Billion by End of November

Belstat has published data on foreign trade in goods for the first 11 months of this year. In January–November, imports of goods into Belarus exceeded exports by almost $6 billion. The goods trade deficit increased by 39.7% compared with the same period last year.

Belarus’ exports over the 11 months grew by less than 0.1%, or $31.3 million, to $37.18 billion. Imports of goods rose by 4.2% to $43.18 billion.

In trade with CIS countries, Belarus’ goods exports in January–November increased by 3.2% to $27.45 billion, while imports from these countries grew by 5.3% to $25.17 billion. The trade surplus with CIS countries amounted to $2.28 billion and decreased by 15.9% compared with the same period last year.

Belarus’ goods supplies to countries outside the CIS fell by 7.7% to $9.73 billion. Imports from outside the CIS rose by 2.6% to $18 billion. The trade deficit with non-CIS countries increased by 18.2% to $8.28 billion.

In November, Belarus’ goods exports rose by 18.9% to $3.79 billion, while imports increased by 17.2% to $4.5 billion. The goods trade deficit in November amounted to $707.2 million, up 9% year on year.

Exports of goods to CIS countries in November increased by 20.7% to $5.48 billion, while imports rose by 25.8% to $2.66 billion. The trade surplus with CIS countries shrank by 29% to $154.3 million.

Supplies of Belarusian goods outside the CIS grew in November by 13.8% to $977.1 million. Imports from this region increased by 6.6% to $1.84 billion. The trade deficit with non-CIS countries amounted to $861.5 million, down 0.5% compared with November last year.
