Belarus Exported 11.6 Million Tonnes of Potash Fertilizers via Russian Ports

Belarus exported 11.6 million tonnes of potash fertilizers via Russian ports in 2025, according to a report by Kommersant published on the lifting of U.S. sanctions on Belaruskali.

According to the newspaper, half of Belarusian potash last year was shipped through the Bronka port, 25% via Ust-Luga, 9% by rail to China and CIS countries, 8% through JSC PKS (St. Petersburg), and 7% via BazisPort (St. Petersburg).

The publication also reports that as of November 2025, discussions on building a Belarusian port in Russia with a capacity of 10 million tonnes of fertilizers were still ongoing. Options under consideration included Bronka, a port in the Far East, and river transportation. There is also a project for a Belarusian port in Murmansk. Recently, Murmansk Region Governor Andrei Chibis visited Minsk.

Fertilizer market analyst Aleksandr Vorontsov of MMI said in comments to Kommersant that the lifting of sanctions is unlikely to have a significant impact on the global potash market. The article also expresses doubts that the U.S. decision will alter the logistics of Belarusian supplies. However, the United States could become a new buyer. According to Vorontsov, January statistics suggest the U.S. is changing its import structure: Canada’s share fell from 88% in 2025 to 80% in January, while Russia’s share doubled to 18%.

“Given tensions in U.S.-Canada relations, the lifting of sanctions on Belaruskali and efforts to diversify potassium chloride supplies, imports from Belarus in the near future are highly likely,” the newspaper quoted him as saying.
