On September 23–24, a meeting was held in Moscow between the special representatives of Belarus and Russia responsible for implementing the Treaty on Security Guarantees within the Union State — Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Ihar Sekreta and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko.
“The sides conducted a comprehensive review of the security situation in the Union State, current and anticipated threats, as well as joint measures being taken to counter them as part of the implementation of the provisions of the Treaty and the Union State Security Concept, with an emphasis on nuclear and biological security,” the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.
Particular attention at the meeting was paid to assessing NATO and the European Union’s “escalatory policies and military build-up.” The sides also discussed coordinating efforts to combat terrorism and extremism, organized crime, drug trafficking and illegal migration. They also “compared notes” on measures to counter sanctions.
“The participants confirmed that Russia and Belarus share the same approaches to ensuring the reliable security of the Union State and recognize the importance of the Treaty as a solid foundation for deepening cooperation in this area,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
The next meeting of the special representatives will take place in Minsk in the first half of 2027.
