Belarus Allows Installment Payments to Legalize Unauthorized Land Use

In Belarus, people will be able to pay in installments to legalize a plot of land they have occupied without authorization. Prime Minister Aliaksandr Turchyn signed the relevant resolution today.

The decision to allow installment payments is made by local authorities upon an application from a person seeking to legalize the plot. The application may be submitted separately from the application to obtain the unauthorized plot, but before a decision on legalization is made, the government press service reported.

The amount of the payment required upfront for the right to legalize the land is determined by the executive committee and may not be less than 25% of the total legalization fee. The installment period may not exceed five years.

Executive committees may set a minimum legalization fee below which installment payments are not available. They may also refuse an installment plan if the submitted documents contain inaccurate information or if the applicant has previously failed to properly meet payment obligations for land plots granted under an installment plan.
