Belarusian banks in January-August, using anti-fraud systems and data from the information exchange system with law enforcement agencies, managed to prevent the theft of 5.3 million roubles from Belarusians’ accounts. This is 2.1 times more than in the same period last year, said National Bank Deputy Chairman Andrei Kartun.
According to him, 10,000 unauthorized payment transactions and attempts to carry them out were registered in the first eight months of the year, compared with 12,300 in the same period last year.
The damage amounted to 27.8 million roubles. It fell by 20%. Almost 93% of the thefts were carried out using social engineering methods.
