The Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) has adopted a gender policy that provides equal opportunities for members of the organization, employees, volunteers, interns and representatives of its governing bodies regardless of gender identity, age, marital status or other personal characteristics.
BAJ says it supports the principles of equality, non-discrimination and respect for human dignity, and considers gender equality one of the conditions for free and professional journalism.
The organization’s gender policy provides for measures to prevent discrimination, violence and harassment, the creation of a safe working environment, as well as mechanisms for responding to unacceptable behavior. A gender-sensitive approach is to be taken into account in organizing events, project activities, management and evaluation of the organization’s work.
BAJ also intends to incorporate gender equality issues into strategic and current planning, internal regulations and organizational development. To coordinate this work, the organization’s board will appoint a gender focal point.
BAJ said that in preparing the document, the organization cooperated with specialized gender organizations and experts.
The gender policy applies to BAJ’s male and female employees, male and female volunteers, male and female interns, as well as members of the organization’s board and council.
