The average salary in Belarus increased by 50.6 Belarusian roubles in May, reaching 3,003.5 Belarusian roubles before income tax, according to Belstat.
The last time the nationwide average exceeded 3,000 Belarusian roubles was in December, when it reached 3,112.7 Belarusian roubles. However, the December figure is significantly influenced by the payment of bonuses, annual incentives and 13th-month salaries.
In real terms, adjusted for inflation, the average salary nationwide increased by 7.5% compared with May last year.
In Minsk, the average salary in May stood at 3,891 Belarusian roubles, increasing by just 1.6 Belarusian roubles over the month. In real terms, the capital’s average salary was up 5.2% year-on-year. In the Minsk region, the average salary exceeded 3,000 Belarusian roubles in May. In the Hrodna region, it was above 2,700 Belarusian roubles. The lowest average salary was recorded in the Mahiliou region, where it amounted to 2,551.8 Belarusian roubles, up 7.8% in real terms from a year earlier.
Employees in passenger air transport topped the salary ranking in May, with an average salary of 8,034.6 Belarusian roubles. IT workers ranked second with 7,201 Belarusian roubles, while employees engaged in auxiliary activities related to financial services and insurance ranked third with 7,137 Belarusian roubles.
According to Belstat, the lowest salaries among sectors were paid to employees of hairdressing salons and beauty parlours, whose average salary amounted to 1,698.6 Belarusian roubles in May. Workers in museums, libraries and archives earned 1,832.9 Belarusian roubles, while those employed in creative activities and entertainment earned 1,953.6 Belarusian roubles.
Average earnings in crop production stood at 2,656.1 Belarusian roubles in May, while livestock farming workers earned 2,526.6 Belarusian roubles. In manufacturing, the average salary amounted to 3,057.3 Belarusian roubles, while in mining it reached 4,979.8 Belarusian roubles.
Workers in the construction sector earned an average of 3,806.3 Belarusian roubles before tax, while those in retail trade received 2,396.3 Belarusian roubles.
The average salary in healthcare stood at 2,523.9 Belarusian roubles, while in education it amounted to 2,212.5 Belarusian roubles.
