Lithuanian border guards detained a minibus arriving from Belarus that had been listed as stolen in the United Kingdom, the Latvian State Border Guard reports.
A 58-year-old Latvian citizen driving a Ford Transit was attempting to enter Lithuania from Belarus through the Šalčininkai checkpoint on Friday, September 25.
The man presented documents for himself and the vehicle, which raised no suspicions. However, a check of the database revealed that the 2022 minibus bearing British registration plates had been reported stolen in Britain on September 10.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched. The driver was questioned as a witness and released. The vehicle was transferred to the Varėna Border Guard Unit for temporary storage.
