Another Lithuanian Border Guard Detained in Cigarette Smuggling Case

In Lithuania, a State Border Guard Service (VSAT) officer suspected of abuse of office has been detained. The case is linked to the smuggling of Belarusian cigarettes into Lithuania.

The officer from the Kabeliai border guard post of the Varėna Border Guard Unit was detained in Varėna while off duty, the Lithuanian border guard service reports.

Earlier, a pre-trial investigation was launched at the Pagėgiai Border Guard Unit into the illegal handling of excise goods and abuse of office. The detention is a new episode in the investigation.

Earlier this month, six Lithuanian border guards were detained in a case involving the smuggling of cigarettes from Belarus.
