Among Freed Ukrainian Citizens Is Maria Misyuk, Convicted in the “Black Nightingales” Case

Among the Ukrainian citizens released from Belarusian prisons is political prisoner Maria Misyuk. Her photo was published by the Ukrainian Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

“The first minutes on home soil. Calls to loved ones and tears of joy at a breath of freedom! Today, 31 Ukrainian civilians are returning home! We continue working to bring everyone back,” the caption to the photo said.

Maria is the youngest of the Ukrainian citizens freed today.

The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov posted a video on his Telegram channel in which Maria can also be seen.

The underage Maria Misyuk was detained in March 2024. On 29 April 2024, state TV aired the propaganda film “Children in the Crosshairs. Recruited by the Enemy”, which reported the detention of seven teenagers for “cooperating with Ukrainian special services”. Some of them were accused of “an act of terrorism” and “treason”. The film claimed that six teenagers had allegedly formed the anarchist cell “Black Nightingales”, which was supposedly created under the direction of the National Liberation Army of Ukraine by 16-year-old Ukrainian citizen Maria Misyuk.

Earlier today, press secretary to Alyaksandr Lukashenka Natallia Eismant announced the pardon of 31 Ukrainian citizens, carried out within the framework of agreements between Alyaksandr Lukashenka and U.S. President Donald Trump.

“In implementation of the agreements reached between U.S. President Donald Trump and President of the Republic of Belarus Alyaksandr Lukashenka, at the request of the Ukrainian side and in order to create conditions for resolving the armed conflict in a neighboring state, guided by principles of humanism and as a gesture of goodwill, the president has pardoned 31 citizens of Ukraine who committed criminal offenses on our territory. Literally right now, at this very moment, their transfer to the Ukrainian side is taking place,” she said.
