The head of the Viasna human rights center and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ales Bialiatski met with U.S. President’s Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale. The meeting took place in Washington on Sept. 8, Viasna reports.
According to Bialiatski, the meeting was held “in a warm atmosphere.”
Coale plans to visit Belarus in the near future. According to RFE/RL correspondent Alex Raufoglu, the visit may take place on Sept. 14. Coale is seeking the release of another group of Belarusian political prisoners.
