A sovereign, democratic Belarus is a prerequisite for ensuring long-term security. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya said this on X in a comment on the shooting down of a drone in Lithuania.
“NATO jets shot down a drone that entered Lithuanian airspace from Belarus last night.
We refuse to accept our country being turned into a source of danger to Europe.
Lasting security requires a sovereign, democratic Belarus whose territory is never used against its neighbours,” she wrote.
It should be recalled that a drone, reportedly flying from the direction of Belarus, was shot down near Kaunas shortly after midnight today by NATO fighter jets scrambled in response to an alert. This is the first case of a UAV being engaged in Lithuanian airspace. Drones have previously been shot down in the airspace of Latvia and Estonia.
