A Madagascar National Accused of Organizing Illegal Migration Extradited From UAE to Belarus

A Madagascar national accused of organizing illegal migration through Belarus to the European Union has been extradited from the United Arab Emirates to Minsk.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in June 2024, the man and a group of accomplices organized the illegal stay in Belarus and subsequent travel to EU countries, bypassing border checkpoints, of 13 foreign nationals from Burundi, Cameroon, the Comoros and Nigeria.

The man was wanted internationally through Interpol channels. He was found to be in the United Arab Emirates, where he was detained and remanded in custody.

The UAE authorities granted a request from the Prosecutor General’s Office of Belarus for the extradition of the wanted man. He was handed over at Dubai airport and subsequently taken to Minsk.
