According to the ministry, losses exceeding 10 million rubles were prevented and more than 2,000 people were protected from scams. The network was dismantled by officers from the Department for Combating Cybercrime of the Brest Region Police Department.
The ministry said that since the beginning of the year, the number of reports from citizens about large sums stolen online had increased. The perpetrators called victims, posing as employees of various organizations and law enforcement agencies, and used psychological manipulation to persuade them to hand over their savings.
Analytical work enabled investigators to establish links between individuals involved in separate fraud schemes and uncover an extensive network operating across the country. Officers identified individuals responsible for maintaining equipment and recruiting personnel, as well as organizers and coordinators based in a neighboring country.
The group included more than 80 people, including money mules, couriers and specialists responsible for keeping the equipment running smoothly.
During the operation, equipment worth more than 60,000 rubles was seized. The authorities said they had prevented losses exceeding 10 million rubles and protected more than 2,000 people from fraud.
