Twelve people, including three children, were killed in a Russian strike on Zaporizhzhia, and another 14 were injured. Two of the injured are in serious condition.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian forces had dropped five aerial bombs on residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, and authorities are verifying information about 12 people who may have been trapped under the rubble.

“Today, Russia thanked us for lifting sanctions on diesel fuel exports by dropping five guided aerial bombs on residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia. Unfortunately, 12 people are known to have been killed so far, including three children. I offer my condolences to all their family members and loved ones. Another 14 people have been injured, two of them seriously — doctors are fighting for their lives. Information is being verified about another 12 people who may have been there. All emergency services are on site, and search and rescue operations are continuing. Thirteen of our regions came under attack overnight. Residential buildings, infrastructure and the railway were damaged,” the Ukrainian president said.

“This night has provided further confirmation that Russia sees any easing of pressure as a signal that it can supposedly continue the war and drop bombs on cities. Different signals are needed. Russia must understand that the war has to stop, and to achieve this, it must feel the losses it is suffering. Our strike range is what makes this possible now. We will respond to Russian attacks. Thank you to everyone who is helping,” he added.

Mykhailo Semikin, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, said the strike on a five-storey residential building had partially destroyed one of its entrances. Structural elements collapsed at the level of the second floor. Several other parts of the city were also hit. October 11 has been declared a day of mourning in Zaporizhzhia.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 160 attack drones of various types, including 110 jet-powered Shahed drones. Ukrainian air defences shot down or suppressed 117 drones. Hits were recorded at 14 locations, while debris from downed drones fell at 10 locations.
