A fire broke out at the Almany Swamps on Thursday. According to the Forestry Ministry, the blaze occurred in the Kashara-Almany forestry district of the Stolin forestry enterprise.

“Strong winds and swampy, inaccessible terrain hampered firefighting efforts. The fire mainly affected the swamp, and a large forest area was successfully protected,” the ministry said.

A total of 25 people took part in the firefighting operation, along with fire engines and tractors equipped with ploughs. The fire was contained by 10 p.m., and efforts to extinguish it completely are being finalised this morning.
