10 Released Political Prisoners Apply for International Protection in Poland

Belarusian political prisoners who were released on September 16, taken to Lithuania and decided to legalize their status in Poland have applied for international protection, the United Transitional Cabinet (UTC) reports.

Nine people submitted applications in Warsaw and one in Białystok, with support from the National Anti-Crisis Management, the “Volnyya” initiative and the Belarusian Solidarity Center. Each political prisoner received an individual legal consultation.

National Anti-Crisis Management head Pavel Latushka thanked the Polish side for its cooperation.

“Thank you to the Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Border Guard for the very prompt response and effective cooperation.

As in December 2025 and March 2026, when deported political prisoners submitted documents to legalize their status, we saw a deep understanding and prompt assistance from the Polish side. Such effective support is essential for Belarusians who have experienced repression and forced deportation,” Latushka said.

As a reminder, 25 Belarusian political prisoners were released on September 16. All were forcibly taken to Lithuania. Of these, 10 decided to legalize their status in Poland.
