Oman Appoints First-Ever Ambassador to Belarus, Based in Minsk

Oman’s first-ever ambassador to Belarus with a residence in Minsk will arrive in the country soon. Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi announced the appointment at a meeting with Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankou.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

“The meeting focused primarily on implementing bilateral cooperation programmes and strengthening economic and investment partnerships. The sides discussed how to use the joint cooperation and investment commission to advance projects and partnerships between relevant organisations in the two countries,” Oman’s Foreign Ministry press service said.

Belarus’s Foreign Ministry said the ministers discussed “prospects for implementing joint projects involving Omani investment, including the establishment of assembly facilities for Belarusian machinery used in food production and the manufacture of baby food.”

The ministers also considered opportunities to expand trade and tourism exchanges “in light of the mutual simplification of travel.” They discussed a number of regional and international developments, their impact on security and the economy, and the importance of resolving emerging issues through dialogue and peaceful means.

Belarus’s Foreign Ministry also highlighted “the interest among Omani citizens in receiving medical services in Belarus” and the launch of direct air links between the two countries.

“Badr al-Busaidi announced the appointment of Oman’s first-ever ambassador to Belarus, who will be based in Minsk and arrive in Belarus soon,” the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said.

Oman’s Foreign Ministry did not mention the ambassador’s appointment in its statement.
