In Belarus, Car and Icon Belonging to Priest Henrykh Akalatovich Fail to Sell at Auction

Another auction to sell the seized property of former political prisoner, priest Henrykh Akalatovich, failed due to a lack of bidders. “Christian Vision” reported this.

A 2007 Volkswagen Transporter with a starting price of 16,860 rubles and an 18th-century icon, “The Resurrection of Christ from the Tomb,” were put up for auction. After a previous unsuccessful attempt to sell it, the starting price of the icon was reduced to 2,400 rubles. However, no buyers were found for either the car or the icon.

The BelYurObespecheniye platform is now offering the creditor the option of keeping the unsold property as repayment of the debt under enforcement proceedings.

Other cars, icons and a plot of land belonging to Akalatovich had previously also been put up for auction.

Henrykh Akalatovich was detained in late 2023. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison under the article on high treason after being accused of “spying for Poland and the Vatican.” In November 2025, he was “pardoned” by Aliaksandr Lukashenka and left for Rome after his release. Belarusian authorities continue to put his property up for auction.
