Drone Crashes in Romania Near Ukrainian Border

On the morning of Sept. 24, a drone entered Romanian airspace through the northern part of Botoșani County and crashed about four minutes later near the town of Solca in Suceava County. There were no casualties or material damage, Romania’s Ministry of National Defence reported.

According to the ministry, radars detected the object over Ukrainian territory near the Romanian border. After it crossed the border, two Romanian Air Force F-16 fighter jets were scrambled to monitor the situation. At 6:26 a.m., RO-Alert warnings were sent to residents of nearby villages.

The drone crashed near the town of Solca in Suceava County. There were no casualties or damage. An IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter was deployed to monitor the situation.

That same night, the Romanian military detected a group of aerial targets north of the settlement of Chilia Veche in Ukrainian territory, near the border. Two F-18 fighter jets from the Spanish Air and Space Force were scrambled from Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base to monitor them.

Romania’s Defence Ministry has not yet reported the origin of the detected drone.
