Minsk has begun implementing a two-year project to install 20,000 surveillance cameras on the facades of apartment buildings. The plans were announced on August 27 during a meeting chaired by Minsk City Executive Committee Chairman Uladzimir Kukharau, Minsk-Novosti reports.
In August, Beltelecom specialists installed about 1,000 cameras in the courtyards of apartment buildings. Another approximately 2,900 devices are planned to be installed by the end of 2026, about 9,600 in 2027, with the remaining cameras to be installed in 2028.
“They will cover three areas: waste container sites, which will make it possible to monitor garbage collection; children’s playgrounds, which will help monitor their condition; and pedestrian routes and adjacent areas, making it possible to monitor whether they are being cleaned and maintained in a timely manner,” said Maryna Tolstik, director general of the Minsk City Housing Services association.
By the end of August, specialists had surveyed 58% of apartment buildings. The survey is expected to be completed in December 2026.
The possibility of installing additional cameras facing streets and roads is also being considered. They are expected to monitor green areas and driveways.
The Minsk City Executive Committee said that video feeds from across the city are planned to be integrated into a single center.
“I would like to emphasize that the city is creating this video surveillance system to improve the work of housing and utility organizations. It will make it possible to monitor the quality and timeliness of necessary services, which will help create even more comfortable conditions for the capital’s residents. Specialists will be able to monitor the situation in the areas assigned to them directly from their workplaces,” Tolstik said.
Uladzimir Kukharau instructed officials to develop a procedure for monitoring areas around residential buildings and ensure that city services respond promptly to identified violations.
